ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the characteristics of blood glucose fluctuation and risk factors in type 2 diabetic patients with asymptomatic hypoglycemia. Methods:From September 2018 to July 2021, 342 patients with type 2 diabete mellitus who were hospitalized in the Department of Endocrinology of Hefei Hospital Affilitated to Anhui Medical University were enrolled for a retrospective study. The mean amplitude of glycemic excursions(MAGE), coefficient of variation (CV), 24 hour mean blood glucose level (MG), and time in range (TIR) were obtained by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). According to the results of CGM and whether the patients have hypoglycemia symptoms, they were divided into three groups: no hypoglycemia group, symptomatic hypoglycemia group, and asymptomatic hypoglycemia group. The differences in blood glucose fluctuations were compared among the three groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the risk factors in type 2 diabete mellitus patients with asymptomatic hypoglycemia. The predictive value of MAGE for asymptomatic hypoglycemia was analyzed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results:Compared with the non-hypoglycemia group, the TIR in asymptomatic hypoglycemia group was higher ( Z=-2.042, P=0.041). The asymptomatic hypoglycemia group had lower MG, higher MAGE and CV compared with the other two groups(all P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (UACR), MAGE, and CV were the risk factors for asymptomatic hypoglycemia, while MG was the protective factor. After adjustment for other risk factors, MAGE was still associated with asymptomatic hypoglycemia ( OR=1.111, 95% CI 0.999-1.235, P=0.049). The sensitivity and specificity of MAGE in predicting asymptomatic hypoglycemia were 0.769 and 0.776, respectively. Conclusions:Patients with asymptomatic hypoglycemia present with larger TIR and MAGE. MAGE, UACR, and CV were risk factors for asymptomatic hypoglycemia. Moreover, MAGE has some predictive value for the occurrence of asymptomatic hypoglycemia.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This study investigated the contribution of white-matter hyperintensities (WMH) and lacunar infarcts (LI) to the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in an elderly cohort in China. METHODS: Older adults who were initially cognitively normal were examined with MRI at baseline, and followed for 5 years. WMH were classified as mild, moderate, or severe, and LI were classified into a few LI (1 to 3) or many LI (≥4). Cognitive function was assessed using the Mini Mental State Examination and the Activities of Daily Living scale. RESULTS: Among the 2,626 subjects, 357 developed AD by the end of the 5-year follow-up period. After adjusting for age and other potential confounders, having only WMH, having only LI, and having both WMH and LI were associated with an increased risk of developing AD compared with having neither WMH nor LI. Moderate and severe WMH were associated with an increased risk of developing AD compared with no WMH. Furthermore, patients with many LI had an increased risk of developing AD compared with no LI. CONCLUSIONS: Having moderate or severe WMH and many LI were associated with an increased risk of developing AD, with this being particularly striking when both WMH and LI were present.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the calcification characteristics and biological activity of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis(HAE). Methods Retrospective analysis of 60 patients in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from June 2016 to April 2017 with hydatid positive or surgical pathology confirmed HAE.All patients underwent abdominal CT scan and double-phase enhanced PET-CT examination were confirmed with single lesion. The CT and PET-CT features were analysed, and the maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) of the focal lesion on the PET-CT was measured. According to the calcification,HAE patients were divided into A,B,C type.Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to compare the difference of SUVmax between lesions of different HAE types. Results Sixty patients with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis were evenly divided into A,B and C by different calcifications. The median SUVmax of A,B and C were 3.41(2.17 to 3.75),7.45(6.77 to 9.01)and 6.67(6.28 to 9.01),respectively.The median SUVmax within three types was statistically significant (χ2=4.429, P<0.05). Conclusion The biological activity of different HAE calcifications is different.

ABSTRACT

A reliable UPLC-MS method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 4 chemicals (Sudan Ⅰ, tetrabromobisphenol A, tris ( 1, 3-dichloroisopropyl ) phosphate and tris ( chlorisopropyl ) Phosphate) in children products. The samples were ultrasonic extracted with acetonitrile, and then the four chemicals were separated on a C18 column in 3 min. Results showed that the limit of quantification of the method was between 5 and 500μg/kg. The calibration curves were linear within 2-3 orders of magnitude with typical correlation coefficient above 0 . 9995 . The recoveries ranged from 83 . 7% to 97 . 8% with three addition levels. The sensitivity, recovery and selectivity of the method could fully meet the requirements of practical work.

ABSTRACT

The data collected from 34 type 2 diabetic patients receiving intensive insulin therapy for six years showed that the yearly mean HbA1C was less than 7.0%,and none of the patients showed severe hypoglycemia, occurrence or evident progression of retinopathy or nephropathy, and the islet β cell function gained improvement. The DQOL score, used to evaluate the quality of patients' life had no significant change during the observation ( P >0.05 ).It is satisfactory and safe to maintain long-term glycemic control with prolonged intensive insulin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes, and that such therapy does not induce untoward influence on the quality of diabetic patients life.
